Noah van Barriger is an aspiring photographer based in Hawai'i.
He grew up on Maui where he developed a passion for the wildness
of the islands and has been living on the Big Island since 2011.
As a resident of Pāhoa, Noah lives only a few miles
from the active 2018 lower Puna lava flow.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Noah van Barriger's photography is inspired by wonder for strange and interesting places in Hawai'i and the way that a camera can frame rusty, broken things in a new way. The juxtaposition of the rough, sometimes harsh, beauty of Hawai'i and the wild, rural pockets of the islands.
VIDEOGRAPHY
Noah's unique star and lava videography showcases rarely seen aspects of the Big Island of Hawai'i from the celestial view of the summit of Mauna Kea to the fresh Leilani and Kapoho lava fields. You can see his videos in concert with Epic Visuals in new productions here.

HAWAI'I LAVAFLOW PHOTOGRAPHY
The 2018 Lower Puna Eruption is a currently paused volcanic event on the island of Hawaiʻi, on Kīlauea volcano's East Rift Zone that began on May 3, 2018. Outbreaks of lava fountains up to 300 feet (90 m) high, lava rivers, and volcanic gas in the Leilani Estates subdivision were preceded by earthquakes and ground deformation that created cracks in the roads.
The eruption forced the evacuation of approximately two thousand residents and destroyed hundreds of structures. The fissures had sent lava rivers that buried part of Hawaii Route 137, the Kapoho lava fields, and sections of Pohoiki Bay. As part of the local community evacuation efforts, Noah was able to see the massive lava-flow firsthand.
Many of our gallery images come from the Leilani evacuation efforts and some of the 24 fissure sites. To learn more about how to support the communities still affected by the lava flow, click here.
